BECKHAM: “IM VERY HAPPY IN MADRID; I WANT TO WIN THE LEAGUE OR THE CHAMPIONS” August 2005
Its the start of the third season for David Beckham in the white shirt, and the Englishman feels happier than ever in the team and in the city of Madrid. He has the absolute trust of Luxemburgo in his position on the right wing, where this year he wants to achieve something big. “I dream about winning the three titles, although above all I want to win the League or the Champions”, he said in an interview given to Realmadrid.com and Realmadrid TV.
How do you see this tour now its in the final stage? (In Spanish) It has been difficult. Physically its not great for the players, but its important.
What did you think of the teams visit to the United States? Its difficult to do what we did in the United States as in America football is not as popular as anywhere else in the world. Thats why its good to have played there as then the people can get into it and the fans can see more European football.
Is it difficult to play matches when you havent yet played the preseason? Yes its difficult as we havent trained hard and were out the the rhythm of competition. We finish the games very tired and its hard to recover, but thats normal now.
Nevertheless youve won three out of four mathces Its important to win three games as theres a very long season ahead of us and the sooner we win the better. In the match against Tokio Verdy we were unfortunate, tired from a lot of travelling, with lots of jet-lag, but the truth is we played well. Its very important to train and do it well. Up to now weve played four matches and we are very tired as we havent been able to train properly. Itll be in Austria where we begin the hard training.
How about Diogo and Pablo Garca? Its very important to have a big team as along the season there are lots of League games, Champions, and the Copa del Rey. So the more players we have the bettter.
And Luxemburgo? This year you start of with him for all the season. Starting off with Luxemburgo from the start is very welcome for us. Last year we had three trainers, but since he arrived things have been very different as we saw in the second half of last season.
There was a lot of talk about your departure but you feel good in Madrid. Right now Im very happy in Madrid. Until now for me and my family everything has been perfect. My kids love their college in Madrid. All Im missing is winning titles. Winning all three would be my dream. But first of all I want to win the Champions or the League.
Its very hard to see a sad expression on David Beckhams face. Smiling is part of my life, first of all in England, and then in Madrid. I love smiling.
